When I was 12, I decided I wanted to be rich one day. I worked hard! I searched on YouTube for how to do that and found lots of videos with topics like “Millionaire’s Routine” or “Millionaire’s Habits”.
I watched a lot of them, and (almost) all of them shared the same advice. Don't get me wrong; these videos were really helpful to me, and still are:
Wake up early
Read books
Practice exercise
Work on your projects
Sleep well
I always come back to watch some routine videos (not of millionaires but of regular people). I don’t know why, but somehow these simple vlog videos give me good vibes.
I feel like I am able to do the same thing as these guys (or girls) who post this videos.
They just do simple habits, but it’s on the simpler things that you find happiness (isn’t it?).
There are two issues with this:
You watch these videos → try some of these habits → get bored → repeat 🔁.
You try to imitate the people from these videos and repeat the same habits every day, but eventually, you get bored.
How can I break free from this repetitive cycle?
First you need to understand the importance of the habits you have. If you don’t get that, you’ll probably forget why you started one habit and then give up.
Last year I was so bored of not being as productive as I could. And then one simple thing changed everything!
I started to do one simple habit, and this made my 2024 a LOT better than last year! (and I think this is my best year until now).
It's as simple as litterally planning my days. Day by day.
My dear reader, you may be thinking “It’s a stupid habit, I know what I have to do on my days, it’s everything on my mind”. But if you understand the importance of it, you’ll see how good it is:
No more overthinking about tomorrow’s tasks when you’re trying to sleep.
Sense of progress
Less stress by eliminating uncertainty around your tasks.
Improved self-discipline
Boost of motivation as you complete each task.
So, where can I plan my days?
You can plan your days on a paper or note app. I use Notion to organize each of my days, it’s a free app you can download (not sponsored by the way).
The idea here is: one hour before bed you start writing what you gonna do on the next day.
How to create a tasks list before bed?
You probably have tasks you must do everyday, so start writing them:
[ ] Wake up at 7am
[ ] Make the bed
[ ] Mobility routine
[ ] Breakfast
[ ] Work
[ ] Lunch
…
And then you add the things you’ll do exclusively on that day.
Something like:
[ ] Buy fruits on supermarket
[ ] Go to grandma’s house
[ ] Study math
…
And now the most important task! (you cannot fail on this)
[ ] Plan the next day
If you complete this task you’ll be preparated for the next day and repeat again and again until you become a lot more productive!
👉 On Notion app, I can break down my daily tasks and keep track of my productivity, day by day.
If you're curious to see how to get this tracker, stick around! I might just spill the details in some upcoming newsletters. Who knows, maybe it’ll give you the boost you’re looking for.
🧊 Challenge of the week:
During 7 days, each day, one hour before sleep, you’re going to separate 5 minutes or less to plan the next day on a paper or a task app.
You must complete (or try to complete) every task of the list.
It’s up to you!
See you next week!
Goodbye!
I couldn't get away with Notion, I tried, I watched the video tutorials but I couldn't make it work for me.
I just use Google Calendar and Keep now mostly, timeboxing is great for me who never knows what's coming up unless it's in black and white on a screen.
My guilty pleasure is watching those "routine" videos too, seeing how the highly productive people live, at least on the day they filmed the video. It makes me wonder how sustainable doing some of those things are.
