Running teached me about discipline and consistency
The key for being consistent and keep going every day.
Running teached me about discipline, consistency and the power of pain.
It may sound like a “coach” thing but I promise, you will finish this reading feeling smarter and better. Keep with me?
I started running at the beggining of 2024, my first run was 6km. I walked more than ran that day, but we all have to start from somewhere, no? I took a good consistancy and improved a lot.
There is one thing in running that’s called “Pace”, it means how much time you spent in one kilometer. On the next trainings I decreased my pace - which is good.
And look, all this evolution was because I was training constantly at least three or four times a week. Even on the worst days, it didn’t matter, I would train.
While I was running the first kilometer, my legs were hurting, my breath was killing me, my eyes were trying to cry. But I couldn’t stop there because of it - I always take care with possible injuries, but that wasn’t the case - I had to continue. Usually the second kilometer is less stressful and the third… is smooth. No pain, no gain - haha!
I was so motivated… by three months. After that I stopped training constantly and let my laziness take over. The consequence? All the progress was lost.
Success isn't always about greatness. It's about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come. - The Rock.
Since that happened I took some time to think on how I could make a comeback and improve. I noticed that if I can run three times a week within 3 months, I can study three times a week for 3 months, I can read everyday for 3 months, I can eat well for 3 months…
What happens after this 3 months? Nothing! Keep going or you’re gonna lose all the progress.
Want discipline? Here is the path
It’s simple: don’t give up!
Really! If you give up, all the progress will end.
I don’t know what brings you here, I don’t know which moment of your life you are living right now. I’m not a coach or anything else. But if you give up your training sessions, if you give up studying, working, you lose all the progress.
My newsletter is about self-improvement, discipline and productivity. But I can’t say “do this or that”. I always try to connect with the readers so we can reflect about ourselves and see what’s happening.
Last week wasn’t one of my best. I felt like I would give up some time, but I remembered that if I give up, I’d lose everything I made and lose the person I was trying to be.
Sometimes we just want to go back in the past and do everything differently. But we can't! Reality hurts a lot, too much... if we just accept it and keep quiet, nothing will change, but accepting the pain and living with it is courage!
That’s it my athletes! It’s time to start and keep consistent. With all of these insights every week you’re not gonna lose a game. Let me introduce you to the challenge of this week.
🧊 Challenge of the week
For this week I propose something really different. It’s a practical activity you have to do everyday until my next newsletter comes out on friday.
Read at least 2 pages of a book everyday.
Go for a 15 minutes walk everyday. (replace the Instagram hours)
After that, you’re going to comment on the next newsletter that you made it. Let’s make it together, I start today! Let’s see who is really disciplined!
Thanks for reading, see you next week.
