Create new opportunities by changing your POV
How changing your point of view increase the opportunities to grow yourself.
I used to hate math, I couldn’t understand what was happening with that bunch of numbers and letters in an equation. To me, it made a lot more sense to be playing Minecraft with my friends than studying that freaking subject.
If you’re not familiar, Minecraft is a game where you can create anything with blocks. You can build houses, cities, minigames - almost anything… This sense of curiosity mixed with imagination and the freedom to create whatever I wanted sparked an interest in programming. In fact, I wanted to create my own video game.
I started studying programming languages and I discovered a new world, a new way to reason through problems. When I returned to school after the pandemic, I was different. I still didn’t love math but I decided to see that as a chance to improve my skills in programming: “Maybe if I try to understand the logic behind it, I can improve my critical thinking and write better code” I thought.
“If life gives you lemons, make a lemonade” - Elbert Hubbard
The point of this story is: It’s all about perspective. If I had continued hating math instead of tooking the opportunity to learn and improve my skills I wouldn’t have developed the capacity to reason as I do today.
So here is a little exercise for you, dear reader: Think of a conversation you had in the past where, looking back, you now think, “Oh! I should have said this instead of that.” Now, shift your perspective. Instead of just regretting it, think of that moment as something you needed to experience to learn. The next time you’re in a similar situation, try to do it better!
Look, I’m not saying that you should try to make mistakes intentionally to learn something - no way! Let it happen naturally.
Please, dear reader, don’t harm others or yourself in the name of “experience”. But when a mistake happens, take the chance to learn from them and grow.
🧊 Challenge of the week:
Write 3 topics you want to become better. After each one, write what you need to do to improve it.
Share it on the community chat on Substack 👇
Example:
Speaking: I need to risk my self to talk with other people, write more and be more confident.
Writing: I need to write more, read more and meditate.
…
Create more, stress less.
